The Homeschool Mother's Journal- 16 September 2011

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

We spent a ton of time outside this week enjoying the beautiful weather!

This afternoon we headed to Ruben's work to see him re-enlist for 5 more years in the Air Force. I'm so proud of him!

 In our homeschool this week…

We finished week 3 of MFW Adventures

Today was our first official day of co-op and everything went smoothly. No one cried and we were even on time, success!

My favorite thing this week was…

The beautiful weather. We spent hours playing outside each morning and evening and we even had to wear sweatshirts today! I hope the fall-like weather sticks around!

 What’s working/not working for us…

For the first two weeks of school we started as soon as breakfast was done but Bean was quite a distraction. This week we waited until Bean was napping to start school and things went much more smoothly.

I’m reading…

I read Room by Emma Donoghue this week. Wow.

I'm cooking...
A few weeks ago we read a story that talked about strawberry pie and Buzz and Boo have wanted to try it ever since. I finally got around to making it this week and oh. my. goodness. It was my first time making a pie completely from scratch and it was heavenly! After a few bites Buzz and Boo decided that they didn't really like it so I ended up having to eat most of it, such a sacrifice ;)

I’m grateful for…

My husband and his job. I'm thankful that we don't have to worry about income or health insurance in such uncertain economic times and I'm so proud of everything he does for our family and for our country.

The Homeschool Mother's Journal- 9 September 2011

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

We had a low-key beginning to the week, just stayed near home.

Ruben got back into town on Wednesday night and had Thursday and Friday off so the second half of the week has been lots of family time!

We also took care of fall clothes for the kids this week. Packed away most of the summer clothes, went through every one's dresser and closet to find what still fits and looked through hand-me-downs to see what we can use and what can be passed on to others. Then we headed out shopping to fill in the gaps.

 In our homeschool this week…

We worked on week 2 of Adventures in My Father's World.

Buzz started a homeschool art class on base on Thursday that he is really enjoying.

Today was our orientation for the co-op that we joined this year. Everyone was very friendly and I think it's going to be a lot of fun!

 Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We have an end of summer pool party to go to for our Life Group after church on Sunday. It will be one of the last group events our family will be able to go to before we move :(

My favorite thing this week was…

Seeing how excited Buzz, Boo and Bean were when Ruben walked in the door after being away for the week.

I’m reading…

I'm still working on Family Album by Penelope Lively, hoping to finish it this weekend.

I’m cooking…

Dinners again! Really, maybe it's just me but I just don't feel like cooking much in the summer. We mostly eat sandwiches and what not when it's hot out. Now that fall is here (well in my mind, no one has bothered to tell the weather yet) I'm back to menu planning.

The night Ruben got back into town. The kids were so happy that Daddy made it home in time to put them to bed!

The Homeschool Mother's Journal- 2 September 2011

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week…
On Tuesday afternoon Bean got her cast off. The doctor said that she probably wouldn't want to walk for a few days because her leg would feel so different after wearing the cast for almost 4 weeks. Ha! Within 10 minutes of getting home she was running around :)
Fall soccer started this week for Buzz so we've been at practices 3 evenings this week.

 In our homeschool this week…
This was our first week of school with our new curriculum. Buzz and Boo both seemed to enjoy most of what we did this week. The only real complaint was from Buzz, he's not a big fan of All About Spelling so far.

My favorite thing this week was…
Bean getting her cast off!

 What’s working/not working for us…
I'm still trying to figure out the best time of day to do school. If we start as soon as we're done with morning chores Buzz and Bean are more alert and have better attitudes but Bean is quite a distraction. If we wait until Bean lays down for her nap I don't have to worry about how to keep Bean busy but Buzz and Bean have a harder time transitioning into school time.

I’m reading…
I finished both The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards and The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton this week. I enjoyed both books. I started Family Album by Penelope Lively this week too. I'm not liking this one as much but I'm only a few chapters in. I'm hoping it gets better.

I’m grateful for…
Bean's leg healing quickly and lots of family time this week before Ruben goes out of town this weekend.

One of the attempts at getting a first day of school picture with all three kids (also the last picture taken of Bean rocking her cast)
