The Homeschool Mother's Journal- 2 September 2011

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week…
On Tuesday afternoon Bean got her cast off. The doctor said that she probably wouldn't want to walk for a few days because her leg would feel so different after wearing the cast for almost 4 weeks. Ha! Within 10 minutes of getting home she was running around :)
Fall soccer started this week for Buzz so we've been at practices 3 evenings this week.

 In our homeschool this week…
This was our first week of school with our new curriculum. Buzz and Boo both seemed to enjoy most of what we did this week. The only real complaint was from Buzz, he's not a big fan of All About Spelling so far.

My favorite thing this week was…
Bean getting her cast off!

 What’s working/not working for us…
I'm still trying to figure out the best time of day to do school. If we start as soon as we're done with morning chores Buzz and Bean are more alert and have better attitudes but Bean is quite a distraction. If we wait until Bean lays down for her nap I don't have to worry about how to keep Bean busy but Buzz and Bean have a harder time transitioning into school time.

I’m reading…
I finished both The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards and The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton this week. I enjoyed both books. I started Family Album by Penelope Lively this week too. I'm not liking this one as much but I'm only a few chapters in. I'm hoping it gets better.

I’m grateful for…
Bean's leg healing quickly and lots of family time this week before Ruben goes out of town this weekend.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

One of the attempts at getting a first day of school picture with all three kids (also the last picture taken of Bean rocking her cast)

  1. Hooray for the little ones cast coming off! I remember one summer, my daughter was 2 (she's 7 now) and broke her arm but where the break was they couldnt cast it, so began a year of follow up xrays to make sure the break was healing properly. now that we have 5 kids under 11, our mantra is "any day you dont go to the urgent care is a successful parenting day" haha. stopping by from the HMJ linky. come over and say hello!
